Frequently Asked Questions

I consider myself a photographer that captures moments and directs a shoot. I do not love the idea of a "posed" shoot because I imagine stiff, uncomfortable and unemotional images. I feel like I simply “adjust” the shot, direct for the best light and make suggestions, but I try to make you look as natural as possible. I get you comfortable and interact with you in a casual way. I love to make you feel at ease so you look your best and we can work together comfortably with one another. In short, I want you or your family to just “do your thing” and let me capture the natural moments. That in a nut shell is lifestyle photography. I prefer to do a combination of adjusted and candid shots, but also want you to simply hold hands, goof around, jump, skip, play and love on one another.  I want to capture the best, carefree part of you and and/or your family.

Really, your “style” is up to you, but I LOVE photographing bright and fun colors that go with our beautiful and vibrant landscape in Hawaii.  If you are looking for something different and want an interesting and exciting family photo, then don't be afraid to go bold! In photos it’s a fun look, mixing and matching patterns and colors too! It is best to choose several colors and coordinate, rather than match. Often times it is easiest to start with one dynamic clothing choice, and then build around that piece – and don't forget the jewelry and accessories that are important to you. Pastels also look beautiful against the lava rock and ocean, so go with what makes you feel most comfortable, and don't forget to bring a small bag to carry your flip-flops/shoes, sunglasses and phones, plus some water to keep you hydrated!

In a typical hour shoot, I take over six hundred photos, and not all of them are perfect. Shocking, I know!  I will go  through each and every one and take only the best, then I fine tune them to make them even more fantastic.  It’s an artistic process, and I usually end up with more than 10% edited shots in the end.  That is still a LOT to choose from.  Trust me, you don’t want 600 unedited photos.  Let me do the work of going through the closed eye photos and edit out the man on the beach 100 yards away. Once they reach you, they are perfection!

Yes, and it’s done for color correction and color enhancement only. The secret is still taking a great picture, but the “magic” and artistic flair happens in post processing. I try to give you many styles and colors, but if you have any particular dislikes, be sure to let me know. I’m always happy to go back and make subtle changes or convert additional photos to black and white, etc…  I also edit out small blemishes on skin and anything distracting from the photo in regards to location. If you have any special requests regarding additional "photo-shopping",  please inquire about my digital makeover packages. With digital makeovers, I am able to subtly make wrinkles and skin conditions less noticeable, eliminate bra straps and tattoos, soften suntan lines or burns, shrink double chins and shrink arm, waistlines, etc...  If you're interested any of these enhancements, please reach out!  I want you to be absolutely sure you love the finished product!

You will receive your edited photos via digital delivery in an online web gallery within 4-6 weeks, depending upon seasonal demand.  I know every client is anxious to see their beautiful photos, and I do my best to get them to you as soon as possible. I promise to send them the moment they are ready!

If our appointment needs to be rescheduled due to illness, inclement weather, or another unforeseeable event, please notify me as soon as possible. I require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice. I get it, things happen, and we will reschedule for another day that works!

Please notify me within 48 hours of your scheduled appointment should you need to cancel. If you are a no show for the session, I will invoice you for a $50 no show fee.

That is different for each and every session. I never have less than 20 after a full session, sometimes upwards of 50+. There will be a combination of color and black and white shots. All of the images delivered will be in jpeg format, and available for digital download in several different resolutions, including my original resolution.

Digital photographs are tricky things.  Typical printing machines from Wal-Mart, Costco, Longs, etc.., rarely print the way they are viewed on your screen. The colors never turn out as vibrant or true.I work with a fabulous professional printing company who I have used to calibrate to my own, making sure that what I see on my computer is what you get when you print. If you are going to print something large and showcase in your home, I want to make sure that looks great. I offer prints at cost because I would rather have you print through the professional supplier than go to the corner drugstore and have them ruin the look of your treasures. I am happy to help consult with you on any idea you have for your home, be it prints, standout mounts, metal, canvas, acrylic, albums, etc… The options are practically unlimited!

In my experience, the morning hours here in Hawaii tend to produce bright photos with the most contrasted bluest ocean and a vibrant sky.  When shooting in the late afternoon within an hour of sunset, you will usually get that beautiful 'golden hour' light.  Photo shoots which are scheduled in the afternoon hours before the golden hour tend to have a bright, blown out sky and a grey ocean.  I do my best to compensate for the lack of vibrancy, however, a blue sky and ocean is important to you, then we should schedule for the morning. If a famous Hawaiian sunset is your dream, we plan for that golden hour. We can discuss further when you contact me.

I’m learning to love every location here on the island! Whether it’s a resort, a bamboo forest or a local beach, we will find beauty and contrast everywhere. I have locations that are more private and some where we work around a crowd. I’d be happy to send you more information on locations and a sample online gallery to preview, then we can chat about your needs and vision.

I'd bring water with you and a small bag to carry your slippahs (flip-flops in mainland speak) and sunglasses, phones, etc.  Makes it easier for those shoes-off beach walks.  I also recommend bringing along some "bribes" for the little ones, just in case they need extra incentive to smile :)   Don't worry, if you forget, I always have some on hand!! Also, some bring a change of clothes and towels too, as splashing and water play does happen (which is awesome!)
