Destiny and Reed were such a pleasure to work with for their Big Island wedding! Truly the entire day revolved around their love and affection for one another and their family. Surrounded by their closest friends and family, they said I do right next to the ocean, with the waves as their background music. Papa Kona is second to none for this kind of ambiance as far as Kona wedding venues compare.
Big Island Officiant, Mike Eicher, created a custom ceremony for Destiny and Reed. They wanted to include their children in the union and the sand ceremony was the perfect way to incorporate them into the day. They took turns adding their vials of sands into the jar and now it’s a keepsake for their home.
Something you may not know about me – I am a lover of flowers as well as photography! Destiny asked me to design her florals for the big day and I emphatically said, “YES!” She had a vision of soft colors of cream, white and blush, along with a garden vibe. Loved what she chose for her big day! As a side note, I only offer florals to couples were I’m planning with our sister companies, Pink Pineapple Weddings and Big Island Officiant or that I’m photographing. I also handle all of our elopement florals, but I’m not in the full time “floral” business per se. However I LOVE working with flowers and it’s a gift to create for our special couples. I worked in the floral industry all throughout high school and college, so it’s been a joy to work with flowers again – especially tropical flowers!
Papa Kona’s ocean side views are out of this world gorgeous! We love when we get to enjoy capturing cocktail hour on their private 2nd floor deck and enjoy the breeze and palm trees. The surf, the sea and tasty food makes this venue a perfect Big Island wedding venue. Love the sweetheart table set up too, as having a nice little nook to celebrate with your sweetie is amazing. We repurposed the arch florals to the tables so we could maximize the floral budget and have a beautiful floral vibe throughout the reception.
During dinner I HIGHLY recommend sneaking away with me for those last 30 minutes prior to sunset and enjoy golden hour. As far as Kailua Kona wedding venues go, this one is amazing for it’s beach front location. There are only a few Big Island Wedding Venues with direct beach access so close by and Papa Kona is perfect for those golden hour romantic photos! We get to enjoy some sandy beach as well as that dramatic black lava synonymous with Big Island weddings. When the sunset hits just right, the stage is set for EPIC Hawaii wedding photos. The reason you choose the Big Island is for those amazing Kona sunsets and this one did not disappoint!
Wishing you a lifetime of happiness and wedded bliss!
